Fort Worth PD: Men dressed as women rob Family Dollar

- One man was arrested and another still on the run after would-be armed robbers used strange disguises to rob a Family Dollar store in east Fort Worth on Saturday night.

The robbery happened just after 9 p.m. Police said two men, dressed as women and armed with handguns, walked into the store on John T. White Road. They were wearing wigs and makeup.

The men restrained two employees with zip ties and then emptied the safe. An employee was able to hit the panic button and as police arrived, they said one suspect ran out the back. When police searched inside the store, they found the second suspect hiding inside.

The suspect who was arrested was identified as Cedric Lamont Sanders, 24. He's facing an aggravated robbery charge and has a previous history of robbery and battery. Police on Monday released surveillance video of other the other man, who is still at large. He wore a paisley shirt, pants and carried a red purse in the video.

"We are hoping that people who watch this video will recognize how this first suspect walks, looks, moves so they can help us identify him," said FWPD Det. Brian Raynsford.

Randle Gause was not working that night but came by the next day to check on everyone.

"I'm not happy my coworkers got robbed, but I'm glad it wasn't me!” he said.

Police said the employees are fine and no one was injured during the robbery.

“That is some movie type stuff! Like when you go in dressed like a woman, that's like a movie type.  Oh, God. That is like, surreal for real,” said Gause.

Employees at neighboring businesses said it’s frightening to hear the victims were put on the floor, restrained and robbed at gunpoint.

"It's just crazy right, we're right here, it could have been us. So, it's kind of scary, but, at the same time you gotta do what you gotta do,” said Prajwol Phaiju.

Gause said when he returns to work, he’ll be looking over his shoulder for a while.

"It's an ongoing investigation now so we waiting to see what else is going on."

Anyone who recognizes the suspect still on the run should contact the Fort Worth Police Department's robbery unit at 817-392-4469.
