Fort Worth middle schooler with autism scores touchdown

A Fort Worth 13-year-old made a huge score -- but it was a team effort.

Josh Carlton ran toward the goal line with enough heart and determination for everyone in the stadium. The Wedgwood Middle School seventh grader has autism, but is energetic and curious like most 13-year-old boys.

“I always wanted to score a touchdown my whole life,” Josh said.

Josh started out as manager with the team, but eventually he decided he wanted to play. Wedgwood wanted Josh to have his chance at a touchdown and Rosemont Middle School agreed that was a way for both teams to win.

"It's about sportsmanship it's about fellowship it's about looking out for your brother,” said Wedgewood Coach Roland Miller.

Bruce Carlton, Josh’s dad, said the moment his son crossed the goal line was a wonderful moment.

"That's really a beautiful thing because that also brought those kids to this point,” Bruce Carlton said. “Josh is going to remember this always but so will those kids too.”

For Josh, it's a moment he will always treasure.

"When I scored the touchdown we all did great I was so happy and excited it was so awesome,” Josh said.

It was important for Josh to make sure his friends knew he appreciates them. But they told FOX4 many times how much Josh gives back to those around him, also.
