Fort Worth man found beaten, burned inside apartment

A 62-year-old Fort Worth man is expected to survive after he was found severely beaten and burned in his apartment.

The victim's name isn’t known, but he was taken to the Parkland Hospital burn center suffering from serious injuries. Police said the man was beaten and burned by someone before being discovered about 10 a.m. Friday at his apartment on Norma Street.

The initial call was about an assault. It started when a manager tried to get in touch with one of his tenants and when he didn't answer the door or phone, they entered the apartment. That’s when they found the elderly 62-year-old man beaten.

Police said the apartment was also set on fire. When fire officials arrived the apartment was just smoldering.

Police said the victim's roommate showed up on the scene and was taken into custody. There wasn’t any immediate word on what charges he could face.

The manager who found the victim early Thursday believes the man may well have been beaten Wednesday evening and he may have been laying there all night.

The case remains under investigation by Fort Worth Police and Fort Worth Fire arson detectives.
