A Fort Worth family was reunited with their dog who was stolen after their house was burglarized in May.

The burglary happened on May 7 at the family’s home on Clarke Avenue in Fort Worth. Among the items stolen was the family dog, Petey, a 4-month-old Collie/Heeler mix.

Police said the investigation of the burglary led them to a house on Columbus Avenue. As officers were speaking with a man in the home and showing him a picture of the dog, Petey walked through a screen door from inside the house. Officers recognized him and took him away. One of the burglars also admitted to the crime.

Petey and his family were reunited on Monday in a sweet moment police caught on video.

The officers who helped return Petey to his owners will be honored at a Fort Worth City Council meeting on Tuesday.
