Former principal on trial for soliciting a minor

Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of a former elementary school principal accused of soliciting sex from a minor.

Oscar Figueroa, 46, was the principal at Viridian Elementary School in Arlington, in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district.

Police said last summer he placed an ad on Craigslist hoping to meet a boy. He showed up at the Stonebriar Centre in Frisco to meet someone he thought was a child.

Instead he was caught in a sting operation. His contact online was really an undercover officer, police said.

He allegedly told investigators it was not the first time he had used Craigslist to solicit sex.

Figueroa has since resigned from his position at the elementary school. If convicted of the federal charges, he could face a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison.
