Former Chief David Brown to be SMU December commencement speaker

Former Dallas Police Chief David Brown will be the featured speaker at SMU’s December commencement.

Brown served as chief for more than six years and gained national prominence for his response and handling of the July ambush shootings in downtown Dallas that left five officers dead.

Brown and all first responders were honored by the university during the SMU-TCU football game at the University Park campus in September. Brown participated in the coin toss.

Brown retired from the police force in October after 33 years with the department. On Wednesday it was announced he will be an on-air analyst for ABC News.

SMU commencement will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. in Moody Coliseum.
