Firefighter hurt in Arlington apartment fire

A firefighter suffered burns and another man was hurt while escaping an early morning apartment fire in Arlington.

A police officer spotted smoke coming from the complex on Silverwood Drive just before midnight. The officer began evacuating people even before firefighters arrived.

The man who was hurt woke up to the sound of a smoke alarm.

"It was full of smoke. The smoke alarms were going off. I felt like I had to jump or I wouldn't have made it," Anthony Hernandez told FOX 4.

Hernandez was treated at the hospital for injuries on his hand and arm.

The firefighter suffered some second-degree burns.

Four apartment homes have fire damage and a couple others have heavy water damage. The American Red Cross is helping the people who were forced out.
