A couple escaped intense flames as their rural Rockwall County home burned overnight.

When fire crews were called to the home near Heath, about 25 miles east of Dallas, flames were already shooting out of the garage and attic.

Firefighters immediately called for backup from other nearby departments.

"It was a rural water supply line out there. It's only a 6 inch main so there wasn't enough water to contain the fire. So it was defensive mode and the whole house was consumed," said Fire Chief Mark Poindexter from the Rockwall Fire Department.

The man and woman inside were asleep at the time, but they were able to escape without injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
