People in Forney, east of Dallas, are reaching out to help the family of a Dallas police officer after a Christmas fire.

Officer Gerardo Gardiola’s family built the home 12 years ago in the neighborhood near University and Ranch roads. Everyone in the home escaped unharmed, but the house was destroyed.

Fire investigators have not determined the exact cause of the fire but believe it may have started in the fireplace.

The salon where Guardiola's wife works is holding a fundraiser for the family. They're accepting donations at the Forney Salon Suites Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.

The Dallas Police Officers Association says the family lost everything. It's also accepting donations through the Assist the Officer Fund.
