Several units are either destroyed or damaged after a two alarm fire at the Pecan Ridge Apartments in Mesquite. Crews there have been busy boarding up doors and windows. An entire building is now unlivable and unstable.

The call came in to Mesquite firefighters around 2 P.M. Friday. Tall, quick moving flames engulfed the building sending people inside the apartment scrambling for safety.

Dameka Woods and her mother Vera say they were inside their 3rd story apartment when they heard the fire alarm go off. They looked outside and saw flames shooting up from the 2nd floor. That's when the floor started to cave in. The two grabbed their purses and cell phones, and ran.

The mother and daughter say the whole third floor caved into the second floor, and like most that lived there; everything they own is gone.

In all, Mesquite fire says 20 units were either completely destroyed or suffered some sort of damage.

The Red Cross spent the day on scene helping victims with hotel rooms to stay in for the night.

Investigators say they won't know for sure what happened until at least tomorrow.
