Fair-themed restaurant to open inside Walmart
PLANO, Texas - An award-winning State Fair of Texas concessionaire plans to open a restaurant to serve his deep-fried treats all year long.
Isaac Rousso’s Cookie Fries were named Most Creative in the Big Tex Choice Awards this year. He’s also responsible for the Smoky Bacon Margarita, Deep Fried Cuban Roll and Fried Pop Tart in past years.
Rousso’s first State Fair Treats restaurant will open Sept. 20 inside the Walmart store on Coit Road at Highway 190 in Plano. Others will follow inside Walmart stores across DFW later this year.
"Walmart was looking for a creative new food concept to energize high profile locations," he explained. "During the State Fair of Texas, we have the opportunity to serve more than 2 million people during the fair's 24-day run. At our first Walmart location alone, we'll have the chance to see 1.5-2 million people per year."
The restaurant will have a retro theme and feature 45 menu items inspired by the fair.
