HALTOM CITY, Texas - Two people were hurt in an early morning house fire in Haltom City.
The fire broke out just before 4 a.m. Monday in the 3200 block of Field Street near Haltom Road.
Roberto Aldama said he woke up after he heard someone screaming for help. Then he looked out the window and saw his elderly neighbor’s home engulfed in flames.
Aldama said he broke a window and carried 84-year-old Eli Douglas to safety.
“I just had to get him out. He recently lost his wife about six months ago and I told him I was gonna take care of him and I did,” he said.
Douglas was rushed to Parkland hospital being treated for smoke inhalation. Aldama also cut his arm during the rescue.
Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen, but they aren’t yet sure about the cause. It completely destroyed the home.
