DALLAS - Dallas police are investigating after a Duncanville officer shot and killed a person in a Downtown Dallas apartment building on Wednesday. It was part of a warrant operation involving several agencies.
State and local authorities with the DEA were serving a warrant around 1:30 p.m. at a high-rise apartment building in the 1500 block of Commerce Street.
At some point during the operation at DPL Flats, a Duncanville police officer shot the suspect. The unidentified suspect died on the scene.
And even though the incident happened in the middle of the day in the heart of Downtown Dallas, people who live in the building didn't hear anything.
“It's kind of strange when you're walking around and there's a lot of police officers and things like that,” said apartment resident Sara Castaneda. “And you don't know why or what's happening. It is unsettling because you don’t know what happened.”
“I took my dog out a little earlier today, and I did see cop cars then, too,” said nearby resident Stefani Billings. “I didn't know that anything was going on, but that's pretty scary.”
Police say no one from the task force was injured. There were also no Dall police officers involved in the shooting. However, since this incident happened in the Dallas, DPD's Special investigations unit is heading up the investigation.
Police have not said if the suspect was armed with a weapon. No other details have been released at this time.
