Driver killed in tanker truck crash and fire in Hurst

The driver of a tanker truck was killed in a crash early Saturday morning in Hurst.

It happened around 4:00 a.m. near W. Hurst Boulevard, south of Northeast Mall, said Hurst Battalion Chief, Mark Gray.

The tanker truck caught on fire and sent huge plume of smoke into the air.

All lanes of a portion of Loop 820 were shut down for hours, while the crash was investigated. Guests at the nearby Americas Best Value Inn were also evacuated for a short time due.

Northbound lanes of 820 are back open. Southbound lanes will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time, according to the Hurst Fire Department.

The driver has not been identified. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
