Dog tags found in Saipan returned to WWII vet's family in Frisco

- A World War II veteran’s dog tags were returned to his family in Frisco Wednesday.

Dale Swaim was an Army medic in the Pacific during WWII. He survived the war but his dog tags were left behind on the island of Saipan.

Nearly 80 years later the tags were found on the beach.

Swaim died years ago. His niece accepted the tags as a piece of her family’s history.

“To track all of us down with no one from that generation surviving except one uncle, it really is I think a miracle that they found us,” Tracie Shipman said.

Vietnam veteran Ed Tudor traveled from Saipan to personally turn over the tags.
