DeSoto ISD remains tight-lipped about superintendent's suspension

- DeSoto ISD parents want answers after the district suspended its superintendent and started an investigation.

The suspension came last week late at night on a national holiday.

Superintendent David Harris has been relieved of all duties. And parents who went to Monday night’s board meeting looking for an explanation didn't get one.

Some parents spoke to the board about the recent controversy and how it has been a distraction.

The board is discussing recommendations on who will serve as acting superintendent. Last week, the board placed Harris on administrative leave and relieved him of his duties. An email to him for comment was kicked back saying Harris's email had been disabled.

But the board remains tight-lipped about why Harris was suspended, leaving parents frustrated and speaking to the board in an effort to defend him.

"What's going on with the superintendent? What's going on? We're hearing one story from the news media,” said parent Augustest Walton. “We really don't know what's going on. But as far as us as parents, we thought he was doing an awesome job.”

Several parents referenced the ugly brawl between DeSoto players and Duncanville players at a high school basketball game earlier this month. It was a video that went viral and caused embarrassment for the district.

Others mentioned the resignation of Coach Todd Peterman, who resigned after the board placed him on administrative leave. On the record, the board's president said on Monday that the superintendent’s investigation has nothing to do with athletics.

Board President Carl Sherman said he couldn’t comment because it is a personnel matter.
