Deputies shoot Tarrant County murder suspect

A man wanted for murder was shot when sheriff’s deputies tried to arrest him overnight.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Las Vegas Trail, south of Interstate 30 in west Fort Worth. Deputies were at an apartment complex looking for 26-year-old Tony Vincent Novello.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office had released Novello’s photo and description earlier this week. He had an arrest warrant out for a murder that happened at a Jacksboro Highway trailer park early Tuesday morning.

Deputies had been monitoring the apartment after spotting Novello’s car there. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said the shots were fired when deputies tried to arrest him.

“The officers felt threatened and they fired their weapon,” said Terry Grisham with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.

One witness told FOX 4 she saw Novello trying to get away in his car.

“Five deep come out of the apartment with their guns ready to go and he peeled out, ran over the officer’s foot,” Katrina Whorton said. “I was sitting right here. I heard the shots, everything. I heard the officer tell him to stop, get out of the car, turn the car off, get out the car. He threw it in reverse and was ready to go.”

Novello was hit in the arm and is now being treated at the hospital for a serious injury.

No one else was hurt.
