Deputies believe missing boy was taken in custody dispute

A child reported missing in Denton County may have been taken by a relative.

The sheriff's department said a man took 5-year-old Adrian Reyes Wednesday night from the home in Oak Point where he had been staying.

There was a physical altercation, but the man was able to get away with the boy, the department said.

Deputies spent most the night trying to find Reyes. They backed off after learning it was likely a case involving a custody dispute.

"We can't confirm it was actually a kidnapping. We don't know enough details to put out an Amber Alert. That's the reason one hasn't been issued and we're still gathering details at this point," said Sandi Brackeen, a spokeswoman for the Denton County Sheriff's Office, said late Wednesday.

Sources told FOX 4's Latoya Silmon that the people the Red Oak home were trying to get Reyes away from his abusive aunt. His uncle came and got him.
