Denver company threatens to sue Dallas pizza shop over name

The owners of a Dallas pizza restaurant are asking for the community’s help after an out-of-state company with the same name threatened to sue if they didn’t change their name.

Black Jack Pizza has been operating in the same building on Bruton Road since 1990.

A company in Denver, Colorado with the same name is now telling the Dallas owners to change their name or face a legal battle.

Black Jack Pizza founder Terry Jones says the Dallas pizza shop was his dream. Rather than let that dream die, he wants community members to help him re-name the business.

“We have some ideas of what we want the name to be, of course,” Jones said. “But we’re open for suggestions, we're open for this contest and we're looking for big success."

The UNT Dallas Law School will vet the winning name to make sure there aren’t any more legal issues.

The naming contest will run until May 23. The winner will get a free pizza a month for an entire year.

Jones hopes to have a block party in July to unveil the new name.
