Denton woman accused in murder-for-hire plot

A 64-year-old Denton woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly plotting to kill her estranged husband.

Denton police said someone contacted them in September about Jacquaeline Williams. The tipster said Williams was trying to arrange the murder of her husband.

Police began investigating with help from the Texas Rangers and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

An undercover agent met with Williams. Police said she gave the agent posing as a hitman $50 for gas and promised to pay him $1,500 more in six months if he would carry out the murder.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Williams told the undercover agent that she and her husband separated 20 years ago, but that he was abusive and threatening to cut off her financial support. She asked him to wait until after Oct. 23 "so I can cash my check."

Police believe Williams was motivated by a retirement fund that she would benefit from if her husband were dead.

She was arrested Saturday morning for criminal solicitation of capital murder. Her bond was set at $250,000.
