DART asks riders to 'Stuff a Bus' for families in need

It’s cold, windy and wet but Dallas Area Rapid Transit employees and riders may warm your heart.

DART is hosting its annual “Stuff a Bus” event with Smooth R&B 105.7. The goal is to fill a DART bus with items that can be given to families in need all across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“It is very exciting, of course. It’s about the families. It’s about bringing joy and the holiday spirit to families that are in need. Nine plus years we’ve been doing this with our sister station K-104 FM and it’s just a blessing and a wonderful experience to be able to give back to families in need for Christmas,” said Shannon Thomas, a radio personality for 105.7.

She and others are hoping the rain and chilly weather doesn’t deter people from doing what they can to help.

“We need toys. We need things for the seniors. We need blankets. Anything that you can provide to help a family, we need. So, definitely toys. But if you have blankets and clothes and things like that you want to give to the seniors, like I said, we would definitely take that as well,” Thomas said.

Often times people don’t give just because they assume others will. Event organizers are encouraging everyone to step up.

“It’s that time of year and this year where families just need help and we have been seeing that across the board with a lot of things we have been doing for the station, giving back to single moms and giving back because people are in need. And they need help and we are here to help,” Thomas said.

Donations can be dropped off at the Mockingbird Station, near the intersection of North Central Expressway and Mockingbird Lane, until 5 p.m. Friday.

DART’s Red, Blue and Orange lines run through the Mockingbird Station.
