Dallas sports icons help present $400k donation to Dallas police

Sports icons celebrated Dallas police officers during an event at DPD headquarters on Monday afternoon.

Legendary Cowboys players Roger Staubach and Emmitt Smith were there along with current Dallas Stars players Jamie Benn, Jordie Benn and Antoine Roussel.

The group of sports stars helped present the department a check for more than $400,000 -- all donated by customers at Albertsons and Tom Thumb stores.

Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith is proud of the way North Texans have stepped up.

“I look at all of us, this nation, as one big team. We're all on the same page, we all should be striving for the same thing and that is to make this a perfect union in every way that we possibly can. Not a divisive union, not a black, white, Hispanic or brown thing -- but a citizen thing. That’s what everybody is striving for,” Smith said.
