A Dallas Police officer is in critical condition after being struck by a car on I-20.

57-year-old Boniface Madubuko initially arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, but police later changed the charge to aggravated assault on a public servant.

This crash happened as the officer was responding to a possible hit-and-run call at 5:45 Sunday morning at I-20 and Mountain Creek Parkway. At about 6:30, officers were trying to divert traffic away from a disturbance in the westbound lane by shutting down the far right lane.

As officers were laying down flares, police say a driver in a Toyota Venza drove around a police car with its emergency lights on and hit the one of the officers working to shut down the lane. The driver who hit the officer was arrested on scene, while the officer was transported to Methodist Dallas medical center.
