Dallas Police Department Launches Violent Crime Task Force

Dallas police say for 12 consecutive years, violent crime has been down in their city.

That is until last year when it spiked.

Upper brass in the department knew something needed to be done.

170 officers and supervisors from SWAT, Metro Task Force, Gang Unit, and Narcotics will focus on the city’s problem areas identified by a crime analysis.

Police will concentrate on the areas around several different intersections:

 Audelia & Forest

 Five Points

 Ross & Bennett

 Hampton & Ledbetter

 Hatcher & Scyene

"We believe focusing on these areas will have the greatest impact on reducing violent crime across the city," said Deputy Chief Paul Stokes.

Just weeks ago on Skillman St. near Audelia Rd., police say a stranger got into the man’s car & waited, then shot and killed him when he got back in his car.

“The thing that bothers everyone the most is the gunshots we hear two, three, four times a week,” said Murray Morgan.

Morgan lives in the area targeted by the violent crimes task force.

He hopes the area's reputation will become more than what most have read about.
