DALLAS - A child is safe following an intense standoff in east Oak Cliff Tuesday morning.
Dallas police said it started around 1:30 a.m. after 27-year-old Abel Anderson allegedly stabbed his brother-in-law during a fight at a fast food restaurant.
Responding officers knocked on Anderson's door in the 1500 block of Southerland Avenue as paramedics took his injured brother-in-law to the hospital for treatment.
But, police said he slammed the door on the officers and barricaded himself inside the house. He also held his niece hostage and at one point held broken glass to her neck.
A SWAT team was called in to help negotiate. Anderson finally surrendered peacefully around 3:15 a.m.
He was taken into custody and charged with one count of aggravated assault (family violence) causing serious bodily injury and two counts of aggravated assault (family violence) with a deadly weapon.
Paramedics examined the little girl at the scene. She was not hurt.
