Dallas County hosts back to school immunization fair

Many Dallas residents are preparing to head back to school with immunizations from the Dallas County health department.

The rain may have slowed the initial crowd of people at this year’s Dallas County Health and Human Services immunization fair. In the past, there has been a line of people waiting for the doors to open.

Rain or shine, the immunizations will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day this week at DCHHS’s Stemmons, Carrollton Farmers Branch, John West, Irving, North Dallas and Oak Cliff branches.

On Tuesday the Dallas Police Department is also hosting a fair at George Elementary in Far East Dallas. The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon.

DCHHS serves children up to 18 years old. The cost is $10 for the first visit and $5 after that. Those under the Texas Vaccine for Children’s program will get free immunizations.

In most cases, if kids don’t have all of their shots they can’t attend school. DCHHS’s interim director said diseases still exist within the community and the goal is to support a healthy environment for children in the classroom.

The health department asks that people show up early and not wait until the last minute because of possible wait times.
