Dallas agrees to 3-year school crossing guard contract

The city of Dallas will pay a contractor to take over the school crossing guard program.

The city council on Wednesday approved a three-year contract.

For years the guards have been provided by the Dallas County School District, which also provided bus services.

But voters disbanded the district after years of mismanagement.

The city said some low-risk crossings will be staffed by volunteers and not paid crossing guards.
