Volunteers were at an elementary school in Red Oak Monday removing items from the heavily damaged buildings.

Shields Elementary School was hit hard by an EF-3 tornado that ripped through Ellis County Saturday night.

The building was ruled unsafe for students, so it will be closed for repairs. Classes will be held at Red Oak Junior High for the remainder of the school year.

The junior high is currently vacant.
