Crews spent most of the morning Wednesday trying to repair the damage after an overnight crash on westbound Interstate 30 in Dallas.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. under the St. Francis Avenue bridge. An 18-wheeler carrying a heavy-duty wrecker tried to pass under the bridge but its load was too tall.

Part of the wrecker punched through the steel beams and pierced through the main lanes of St. Francis. Another part of the wrecker ended up hanging off the side of the trailer.

The driver of a pickup swerved to avoid the crash and was rear-ended by another 18-wheeler. The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

St. Francis remains shut down. Video from SKY 4 showed road crews working to repair a hole in the road.

The right lanes of westbound I-30 were closed most of the morning while Texas Department of Transportation crews checked on the structural integrity of the bridge.
