Crandall PD officer charged with sex assault, gets fired

A Crandall police officer was recently charged and fired for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl, according to officials with the Crandall Police Department.

Jail records show that Christofer Melugin, 36, was charged March 12 with sexual assault and official oppression.

The police department launched an internal affairs investigation into Melugin after getting a complaint about him last week, and the allegation was confirmed.

Melugin had been with the department for six months.

The Kaufman County Sheriff's Department is heading the criminal investigation into Melugin.
