Couple's car stolen from NorthPark Center valet lot

A North Texas couple said their car was stolen from a valet parking lot at NorthPark Center and the popular mall needs to step up security.

Lynsey Englutt and her boyfriend Chad Morrison are out several thousand dollars after the couple's SUV and valuables were stolen the day after Christmas.

The pair says they gave the key fob to a valet attendant. When it was time to leave, their SUV was nowhere to be found.

"how the key fobs got out of a professionals hand and not be secured … I don't understand it,” Morrison said.

Englutt used the tracking device on her SUV to locate it about six miles away, sitting in a parking spot at a motel offer Regal Row.

The SUV was locked and none of the windows were broken. Inside the SUV was a scarf, sunglasses and gloves -- items that didn't belong to the couple. They believe the suspect used it as a disguise. The couple's lap top, purse, watch and gun belonging to Chad, who's a CHL holder, were stolen.

Like previous NorthPark robbery victims FOX4 has interviewed, Lynsey and Chad want the mall to install more security cameras.

"I'd like to get to the bottom of that,” Englutt said. “We weren't beat or anything but there's definitely something going on."

In a previous statement about security, Northpark said it does have security cameras both inside and out and has increased security efforts throughout the garages and parking lots.

The couple knows the cameras won't stop a crime from happening, but they believe it's an important tool that could help catch criminals praying on people in public places.

“I valet because I don't want to walk out into a parking garage I don't want to walk out by myself or with my children."

A petition circulating online requests that NorthPark center confirm the location of cameras, that all cameras are operational and calls for the posting of dispatch contact information for security escorts.

A mall spokeswoman tells me they plan on meeting with the petitioner this week to address those concerns. The spokesperson also maintains that NorthPark is one of the safest malls in the country.
