Couple hurt in Plano barn fire

Two people were hurt when a barn they were living in caught fire in Plano Wednesday morning.

Fire officials said the husband and wife were living in the building off East Parker and Jupiter roads while their home was being renovated.

The male victim was flown to Parkland Hospital in critical condition. His wife was also taken there with less severe burns.

"We found out that their home was being remodeled. There was a resident portion to the barn and the husband was awakened by their dog parking. When he got up he found the fire. He got his wife. They got the burns while they were trying to exit the structure," said Plano Fire Rescue Captain Ron Cooper.

The barn will be a complete loss.

Several chickens and goats live on the property. So far firefighters have not found any deceased.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
