Police say the suspect, 36-year-old Nathaniel Tillery, attacked a clerk at a convenience store Tuesday morning, dragged him into the bed of the victim's pickup truck and drove the truck all the way to Haslet before he was arrested.
A probable cause affidavit says Tillery was seen on camera attacking Garcia as the longtime clerk was hosing down the parking lot, and then going back in to rob the store.
Police surrounded a black pickup truck that was parked in front of a house in the 14200 block of Tijuana Trail near Haslet on Tuesday afternoon. After arresting Tillery, they took the victim, 55-year-old Kevin Garcia, to a Fort Worth hospital.
Witnesses say Garcia was covered in blood.
Tillery's stepbrother lives at the home where Tillery was arrested. He says his other stepbrother alerted him of the kidnapping and that Tillery might be headed his way.
The stepbrother says he called police as soon as he saw Tillery.
"The guy in the black Ford Ranger pulled up and right after he pulled up, the cop car came flying up, and another one came flying up behind it," said witness Nathan Hight. "The guy in the driver's seat got out of the car the cop drew his gun and told him to get on the ground. After that, two more came up."
Investigators from College Station are heading to North Texas to assist with the investigation.
