Cleburne officer saves driver from fiery wreck

- A Cleburne police officer is being hailed a hero for saving a man from a fiery wreck.

The crash happened Sunday shortly after midnight in the 500 block of North Nolan River Road. Police say Officer Chad Carter responded to a caller that said he was involved in a crash and his car was on fire.

When the officer arrived, he immediately used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames in the back of the car. Once it was out, he rushed to save the unconscious driver stuck inside the car. He managed to pull the man out and pull him away from the car.

Within minutes of Officer Carter’s rescue, the car was engulfed in flames.

“Officer Carter’s actions demonstrate that there’s more to being a police officer than writing tickets and making arrests,” the department said in a press release. “Officer Carter put himself in danger to save the life of a citizen. All of our officers take an oath to serve and protect the citizens of Cleburne, and on Sunday morning, Officer Carter did just that.”

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
