Standoff ends after chase and shooting at Lamborghini dealership

A man who fired shots at Richardson police officers Tuesday morning was in custody after a chase and standoff that lasted nearly five hours.

Police first encountered Justin Strait, 19, at the Lamborghini Dallas dealership in Richardson. Officers responding to a burglar alarm at about 3 a.m. said they found him inside.

Police said Strait fired shots at them from inside the building. He then took off in an SUV and led police on a chase into McKinney. Officers had had him surrounded at Highways 75 and 380 for about an hour.

Around 6 a.m., officers fired tear gas into Strait’s SUV. But instead of surrendering, he took off again going north on Hwy. 75 into Anna.

The suspect stopped again on the side of Hwy. 75 near the Anna and Val Alstyne border. SWAT officers used a PA system to try to convince him to surrender. They moved in with another round of tear gas as the sun came up.

Strait was taken into custody just before 8 a.m. SWAT officers restrained him and then loaded him into the back of an ambulance.

Strait now faces charges of attempted capital murder, burglary and evading arrest.
