Charges dropped against ex-Texas cop in tampering case

Charges have been dropped against a former Amarillo police officer who had been accused of altering a police report in connection with an incident in which he and another officer illegally entered a home.

The Amarillo Globe-News reports prosecutors dismissed the charges against 27-year-old Saulo Bravo because of a procedural error that left prosecutors with insufficient evidence to pursue the case.

Walt Weaver, Bravo's attorney, says the ex-officer is happy the matter has been resolved.

The charge stemmed from an internal Amarillo police investigation into an August incident in which Bravo and another officer entered the home late at night, not wearing their uniforms and not identifying themselves until the homeowner shot at them.

Bravo had faced a charge of tampering with evidence.
