The mother of the man who was shot and killed by an off-duty Dallas police officer believes there is progress in the investigation.

Botham Jean was killed inside his Dallas apartment last month. His neighbor, the now-fired Officer Amber Guyger, said she thought he was a burglar inside her apartment.

Guyger said she realized after the shooting that she had gone into the wrong apartment.

Jean is from the country of St. Lucia. His family traveled to Dallas this week for an event and to meet with the Dallas County District Attorney.

“The investigation is progressing and they are preparing to go to the grand jury,” said Allison Jean, his mother. “We are comfortable with the information that is presented to use that the case is being investigated and there is progress.”

Guyger is charged with manslaughter. District Attorney Faith Johnson said that charge could change when the case goes before a grand jury.
