Brandon Bevers addresses new developments in Missy's murder investigation
The husband of the murdered Midlothian fitness trainer says no one should be ruled out of the investigation – including him.
More than a month has passed since Missy Bevers was found bludgeoned to death inside a Midlothian church with some kind of tool the killer used to break-in. The killer, seen on surveillance video, was dressed in what looks like police tactical gear.
It’s a crime that has drawn national attention.
"In a strange way, I'm thankful for the attention that this has received,” admitted Brandon Bevers, Missy’s husband. “But it goes back to that it happened in a house of God, and that's pretty disturbing."
Midlothian police updated the investigation last Friday, sharing their belief that the killer, man or woman, was between 5'2" and 5'7". They also shared a picture of a Nissan Altima they're looking for seen in the area the morning of the murder.
Brandon says he's insisted on weekly meetings with investigators and met with them again on Tuesday.
"I don't know if it's business related or some kind of jealousy,” said Brandon. “I've pretty much exhausted every scenario and every avenue that I can think of, of who could have done this.
Brandon applauds police efforts but admits to being discouraged.
“Odd as it may sound, I can truly forgive you for what you've done. But only if you come forward,” Brandon said addressing Missy’s killer. “Turn yourself in. Do what's right. Don't live the rest of your life with this in your heart because it will eat you like cancer. The same applies with my family. We need closure. This is going to eat us alive for many years to come."
Brandon says his three daughters are doing as well as he could hope for. He's tried to insulate them from revelations in the investigation, including evidence of marital and money problems.
Police have questioned some men about their relationships with Missy and whether there was more than just friendships.
"Most people in society don't have their baggage strewn out in public like this. But the problems we encountered, I would say 80 percent of society deals with the same problems,” said Brandon. "In our particular case, we were dealing with our problems and attempting to overcome. And that's what kept us together."
In the latest news conference, police said at this point, none of Missy’s family, friends or coworkers are considered suspects. Brandon says no one should take that as meaning anybody has been cleared.
"It's just like the officer said today when I met with them; myself and everybody else in this investigation, despite the fact that they've come out and said they're no longer suspects doesn't mean they've been eradicated from the investigation because the door has to remain open,” Brandon said. "Once they've scoured the field they should never close the door, you know."
