Blue Bell recalls more cookie dough products due to listeria concerns
Blue Bell announced it is recalling all of its cookie dough products that were made with ingredients from a third-party supplier due to listeria concerns.
The ice-cream maker announced the expanded recall Monday night after the company says Aspen Hills, the third-party cookie dough supplier, provided them with more information on affected cookie dough lots.
Blue Bell says although their products have to test negative for listeria before the batch can be released, they are initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution.
The expanded recall includes the following products in half gallons and pints: Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Blue Bell Cookie Two Step sold to retail outlets, and three-gallon flavors sold to food service accounts including Blue Bell Blue Monster, Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Blue Bell Krazy Kookie Dough. The products were produced from February 2, 2016 through September 7, 2016.
The consumer and food service products produced with the cookie dough pieces were distributed in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
Consumers should not eat the recalled products and are encouraged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Blue Bell says no illnesses have been reported to date with newest recall.
The expanded recall comes less than a month after the initial recall was announced that only included a few of the cookie dough ice cream products distributed in certain states.
Blue Bell had to pull all of its products off the shelves for nearly four months in 2015 after a Listeria outbreak killed three people in the United States. Investigators found Listeria contamination at Blue Bell factories. The ice cream returned to store shelves last fall in a gradual rollout across Texas and the southern U.S.
The State of Texas announced in July it would fine Blue Bell $850,000 for the Listeria outbreak.
