Officers from Benbrook and Fort Worth were involved in a shootout with a murder suspect Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect was taken into custody after a standoff at a home on San Angelo Avenue near Loop 820 and Benbrook Road. Police found one man dead after the arrest.

Police say it started when someone went to the police station a few blocks away to say someone had just shot a relative. Once they arrived at the scene, authorities found one man wounded and a second man dead.

Fort Worth SWAT team members moved in to assist Benbrook police. After about four hours, police moved in and took the suspect in custody, but not before there was some exchange of gunfire.

Benbrook Police Chief James Mills says the man fired on a SWAT armored unit, but no one was shot. Police put the man in an ambulance to make sure he wasn't hurt.

The chief says investigators believe a man found dead on the back porch is the suspect's brother. The second man was wounded in the leg and out of the house when police arrived.

During the negotiations, Chief Mills says the suspect at times threatened to shoot police and at other times to kill himself. Police think this was some kind of domestic disturbance but don't know yet what sparked the shootings.

After the suspect fired at the armored swat unit, police did return fire into the house. The suspect came outside but was still not cooperating with police. So they fired a non-lethal round and were able to take the man into to custody.
