Assistant DA under Susan Hawk resigns

The woman who ran the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office in Susan Hawk’s absence has announced her resignation.

Assistant DA Messina Madson has worked in the D.A.’s office for the past 12 years. She took charge of the day to day operations while Hawk was on extended leave for treatment of severe depression.

Hawk resigned as DA in September. Madson was one of several candidates vying for the open position.

She was passed over for Faith Johnson, a former district court judge who was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott last week.

“My passion for criminal justice and commitment to our community stands strong. I am grateful l to this office for preparing me for what lies next in my career as I look forward to new opportunities to make Dallas a thought leader in criminal al justice reform,” Madson said in her resignation letter.

Her last day will be Dec. 30.
