The head football coach at Arlington Bowie High School became the focus of Friday afternoon's pep rally for what he did over the weekend.

Coach Danny DeArman rescued a woman Saturday evening when her car became stalled in fast-moving floodwaters in Hunt County. The coach put her on his back and walked her to safety. On Friday, she thanked him in a big way.

Minutes before the heartwarming surprise, Eden Russom was tucked away out of sight.

While a pseudo pep rally began, students and staff were in on the ploy to reunite coach DeArman with the woman he saved, Eden Russom, when her car was filled with floodwaters.

The coach was in the dark about the honoring until a county commissioner extended him a proclamation for bravery. Russom then also came out to surprise him.

"The coolest part is getting to meet her. I said all along I was hoping I'd have that opportunity because I left without saying anything,” DeArman. “I wish I had not, but I did. I was just trying to get out of the way so you could be taken care of."

"I just wanted to celebrate him and celebrate C.J. It couldn't have turned out better,” Russom said. “It's amazing. It's perfect."
