Arlington council to discuss new budget that includes police body cameras

The Arlington officer-involved shooting of a 19-year-old man happened off camera, but the city's proposed budget could provide the right technology to prevent that from happening again.

A town hall at the city council chambers on Tuesday will break down the $427 million budget that includes $50,000 for a police body cam pilot program.

The cameras could provide additional evidence in officer-involved shooting investigations.

Body cameras could have captured the recent shooting of Christian Taylor by a now-former Arlington officer in training.

There was surveillance video of Taylor minutes before he was shot, but the shooting itself happened inside a car dealership showroom where there were no cameras present.
