Argyle ISD suspends work at construction site following 2 deaths

Argyle ISD is suspending construction and will be hiring a safety consultant after the same construction site at Argyle High School claimed two lives in less than a week.

A father accidentally ran over his own son at the construction site on Tuesday. Daniel Moran, 22, was run over by an extended flatbed trailer at the same site where another construction worker was killed last week.

Moran was acting as lookout for the extended flatbed and was walking alongside the vehicle as it drove forward when the accident occurred. Moran's father was behind the wheel.

Last week, 36-year-old Julio Ledesma was killed and several other construction workers were hurt when the steel frame of an indoor sports facility collapsed.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of that accident.

Argyle ISD held an emergency meeting of its school board Tuesday night to discuss the construction-related deaths.

After almost two hours in executive session talking with attorneys, the board unanimously voted to hire a safety consultant and for the existing builder, Northstar Builders, to suspend all current projects.

Superintendent Telena Wright said the safety consultant's report will be the first step in moving forward. She said doesn't have a timeline for when the consultant will be hired and give a report.

The board also held a moment of silence to honor the two victims.

Northstar's representatives did not want to comment on the accidents onsite.
