A firefighter was one of the four people hurt in an intense fire at an Addison motel.

The fire started around 6:30 p.m. Thursday night at the Super 8 Motel on Beltway and Midway roads. High winds, a common attic and a lack of sprinklers allowed it to quickly engulf the two-story building.

Because the fire was so big, firefighters from nearby Carrollton and Farmers Branch were called to help put it out.

The motel was under renovation and only had a few guests staying there. Everyone was able to make it out but three guests and one firefighter suffered smoke inhalation. All are expected to recover.

It’s not yet clear how the fire started. Investigators will work to determine a cause but said it might be difficult because parts of the building are structurally unsafe.
