Activists rally against violence in South Dallas

DALLAS - A community group that has organized protests against the Dallas Police Department is now turning its attention to violence in neighborhoods.

The Next Generation Action Network has planned a rally to “Stand Up Against Violence” in South Dallas.

Organizers want to bring attention to the violence in the area. They also hope someone will come forward with information about the shooting of 7-year-old Adriana Espinosa last week.

She survived being shot in the chest as she sat in her father’s car outside a convenience store.

“It’s unfortunate that it takes a 7-year-old to activate our communities many times. But once we get them activated, we can certainly do a lot of good. And so those that don’t want to talk to the police will certainly talk to these folks and that’s what this is about,” Deputy Chief Vernon Hale said.

Police increased patrols in the area. There is also a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
