DeSoto PD chase ends with officer shooting monster truck theft suspect

A police chase Thursday ended with a man being shot by DeSoto police.

Police said officers were following up on a tip about a recent theft of a monster truck Thursday that led them to the 9200 block of Beckley View, a few blocks from Interstate 35E and I-20.

The suspect then got into a truck and fled the scene, triggering a brief police chase. The suspect bailed out of the truck and got into a nearby Ford Mustang another person was driving.

As police approached the sports car, the vehicle went into reverse and hit an officer. Another officer then fired his weapon multiple times.

The driver of the Mustang, Carl Meyer, was injured and transported to a nearby hospital.

Paul Lee, the man who fled in a truck and got into the Mustang, was not shot and was taken into police custody. A woman who was in the truck, Amanda Lee, was also detained by police.

The officer who was hit suffered only minor injuries.

SKY 4 captured video of the scene  at end of the reported chase. The white sports car had hit a fence and was surrounded by police vehicles.
