Stranger cuts hair to help sick child

Eight months ago, a 3-year-old girl in Royse City underwent emergency surgery after doctors discovered a tumor pressing on her spine.

She’s been battling cancer ever since, but now she's getting a show of support from a neighbor.

That little girl, Raeleigh Hogue, especially likes Frozen’s Elsa and her long blond braided locks. There’s only one problem -- the evil cancer.

Raeleigh got an MRI after complaining of pain in her leg. The MRI revealed a two to three-inch mass pressing against her spine.

Doctors performed emergency surgery in January. They gave her a 25 percent chance to survive.

Raeleigh beat the odds, but lost her hair.

However, along the way, the 3-year-old gained what her family calls a blessing.

After meeting Raeleigh less than a week ago, her neighbor, Christina Martin, cut off 15 inches of her hair to donate for a wig for Raeleigh.

Martin says what's been her identity was a better fit for Raeleigh.

"I just feel like this is what I’m supposed to do,” said Martin. “I can’t really explain it. I wake up thinking about Raeleigh, I go to sleep thinking about Raeleigh. It all happened so fast but it feels so right."

“She told me and I was speechless,” said Brittnee Hogue, Raeleigh’s mom.

Turning the hair into a quality wig for Raeleigh will cost about $1,800. Martin raised enough money for the wig after this story aired on FOX 4 on Wednesday night.

“Just to be able to see her smile and give her that confidence back would mean the world to me,” said Martin.
