Winter storm watch on Sunday night into Monday

A winter storm watch will go into effect Sunday evening for most of North Texas.

The National Weather Service said Friday they plan to issue a winter storm watch beginning 6 p.m Sunday and lasting for 24 hours.

The affected counties include: Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall and counties to the north and west.

Sleet and freezing rain are possible, with accumulations of up to half an inch of sleet and one-tenth an inch of freezing rain.

Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing on Sunday and dip into the low to mid-20s early Monday. Monday's high will be near the freezing mark.

Bridges and overpasses could freeze over first, with impacts also being felt on main roads as well.

There also remains the possibility of an accumulations re-freezing late Monday into Tuesday morning.

TxDOT officials began their winter weather preps Friday afternoon, with highways and interstates being pretreated.
