FWPD: Bank robbery suspect arrested, hostage freed

A woman who's ex-boyfriend was wanted for a daring mid-afternoon bank robbery says he wanted Fort Worth police to kill him.

Barbara Hayes says she was kidnapped Saturday by Dee Ingram. He came to her house two days after police say he tried to rob a Frost Bank in downtown Fort Worth Thursday afternoon.

Officers surrounded the branch on Main Street just after 1 p.m. Police said the Ingram ordered bank employees into the bathroom and left shortly after.

Police had been looking for him ever since.

According to Fort Worth police on Saturday, the South ZT Tactical team was able to locate the bank robbery suspect, free Hayes and take Ingram into custody.

Hayes says her daughter knocked on the back door of her room to get the key to move her vehicle and Ingram just popped in. What he told her next, left her terrified for herself and for her family. "He showed me a gun, what I thought was a gun, and he pointed at it and kind of held his T-shirt up and he said you're going to talk to me one way or another and you're going to go with me," said Hayes.

Police say the gun Ingram had was actually an airsoft pistol. She drove Ingram around for hours saying he told her he wanted to get back together. She refused. "What his plan was, was to finish talking to me and then have the police kill him," said Hayes.

She left clues for police to find her. She said she managed to inform her daughter of her location, at which point Ingram grabbed the phone from her. He didn't realize the phone was still recording the conversation using voicemail. Hayes began naming streets that they were driving along.

Once they arrived at a motel on Mansfield Highway in Southeast Fort Worth, she planned her escaped. She asked him if he could take her to the gas station to buy some medication. As they were driving, she saw a police car. She jumped out and police surrounded Ingram, taking him into custody.

He is being held in Mansfield jail, charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
